A LITTLE TUB OF SEASONAL MOSS
Bring a little woodland character to your next miniature project with a small, hand-selected tub of fresh live moss.
Each tub contains a seasonal mix of small living moss pieces, chosen for whatever is looking healthiest when your order is packed. Depending on the time of year, that may include rounded cushion-style pieces alongside other textures and growth forms, so every tub is a little different.
It's ideal for a small terrarium, landscaping a bonsai pot or adding soft green accents to a larger mossarium.
Free UK delivery on every order. Freshly selected and packed in Bristol by The Moss Fairy, with over 11,000 sales since 2019.
WHAT YOU'LL RECEIVE
- One small tub of fresh live moss
- Approximately 2–5 small moss pieces
- A seasonal mix of moss types, shapes and green tones
- Enough for one small terrarium or accent planting in a larger display
Tub size: approximately 5.5 × 5.5 × 3.5cm.
Our mosses are gathered fresh with the seasons, so the textures and colours in your tub will vary from the photos. Every batch is a little different because it's something truly alive.
Working on something bigger? Our moss size guide helps you work out how much you need. If you specifically want rounded cushion moss, choose our whole cushion moss buns or bun moss snippets instead.
Good for
- Miniature terrariums and mossariums
- Bonsai pots and displays
- Closed glass ecosystems
- Fairy gardens and miniature landscapes
- Adding small green accents to larger terrariums
- Small craft and botanical projects
Using it on a bonsai? Our guide to moss on bonsai explains how to lay it, which textures suit which trees, and how to keep it healthy through the seasons.
When your moss arrives
Open the parcel promptly and remove the moss from its packaging. It may look slightly compressed or less vibrant after travelling—this is normal for live moss.
Place it somewhere cool with bright, indirect light and give it a light mist if it feels dry. It should begin to freshen up once it has had some air, moisture and time to settle.
How to use it
Place each piece onto damp terrarium soil or another suitable moisture-retaining growing medium. Press the base gently against the surface so that it makes good contact without squashing it.
You can group the pieces together to form a miniature landscape or separate them around plants, stones and decorations.
Our extra-long terrarium tweezers make positioning smaller pieces inside glass containers considerably less fiddly.
How to keep your moss happy
Keep your moss in a cool, humid position with bright, indirect light. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, radiators and hot windowsills.
Mist when the moss begins to feel dry rather than following a rigid daily schedule. Rainwater or distilled water is ideal, particularly in hard-water areas. Different mosses can dry at slightly different rates, so check the whole arrangement rather than just one piece.
Inside a closed terrarium, the moss should need relatively little additional water. If the glass remains heavily fogged or water collects at the bottom, remove the lid temporarily to allow excess moisture to escape.

A natural, living product
The mix, number, size, shape, texture and colour of the pieces will vary naturally with each tub, since this is living moss rather than a manufactured product. The photographs show typical examples rather than the exact pieces you will receive.
Frequently asked questions
Is this moss live or preserved?
This is fresh, living moss. It has not been dried, dyed or preserved.
Should I mist it every day?
No fixed watering schedule is necessary. Check the moss and mist when it begins to feel dry. Moss in a closed terrarium will usually need less frequent watering than moss in an open display.
