HOW TO USE CUSHION MOSS

Place each moss bun onto damp terrarium soil or another suitable moisture-retaining growing medium. Press the base gently against the surface so it makes good contact without flattening its rounded form.

Use individual pieces as miniature hills or focal points, or combine several buns to create a fuller landscape. Feather moss can be placed between them to create softer, spreading ground cover.

CUSHION MOSS OR FEATHER MOSS?

Choose cushion moss, also known as pincushion moss, when you want compact, rounded forms and clearly defined features. Choose feather moss when you want looser, spreading coverage with the appearance of a miniature woodland floor.

For a richer and more natural-looking terrarium, combine the two: cushion moss creates the hills while feather moss fills the spaces between them.

WHEN YOUR MOSS ARRIVES

Open the parcel promptly and remove the moss from its packaging. It may look slightly compressed or less vibrant after travelling—this is normal for live moss.

Place it somewhere cool with bright, indirect light and give it a light mist if it feels dry. Once it has had moisture, fresh air and time to settle, it should begin acclimatising to its new home.

CARING FOR YOUR CUSHION MOSS

Cushion moss enjoys cool, humid conditions with bright, indirect or diffused light. Keep it away from strong direct sunlight, radiators and other sources of heat.

Mist when the moss begins to look or feel dry rather than watering to a rigid daily schedule. Rainwater or distilled water is ideal, particularly in hard-water areas.

Inside a closed terrarium, your moss should require relatively little additional water. If the glass remains heavily fogged or water collects at the bottom, remove the lid temporarily and allow excess moisture to escape.

Your moss comes from the natural world. Occasionally it may contain tiny fragments of leaf litter, soil or other signs of its woodland origins.

We inspect and prepare it before dispatch, but we don't sterilise it. The photographs show typical examples rather than the exact pieces you will receive.
