STEP INTO THE QUIET, GREEN PLACES MOST PEOPLE WALK PAST 🌿
Glass cases on a naturalist's desk. Garden steps no one has climbed in years. A fallen tree across a woodland stream. An old whisky cask left to the weather.
The Secret Life of Moss is our own colouring book: forty hidden mossy worlds, drawn for slow afternoons and steady hands, with a field note beside every picture written by the people who pack your moss.
WHAT'S INSIDE?
- 40 illustrations in four chapters: Under Glass, The Forgotten Garden, Deep in the Woods and Hidden in Plain Sight
- Each illustration on its own page, with a short moss field note facing it
- Clear, open line work for coloured pencils, fine-liners and felt-tips
- A colour test page and simple tips for colouring moss and glass
- Square paperback, 21.6 × 21.6 cm (8.5 × 8.5 in), 98 pages
COLOUR IT, THEN GROW IT
The book is full of tiny worlds under glass, and you can build a real one. New to it all? Start with what a mossarium actually is, then follow our beginner's step-by-step terrarium guide.
Curious about the mosses you're colouring? Our guide to the different types of moss explains feather, cushion, sphagnum and more. And if the Under Glass chapter sends you down a rabbit hole, read about the most famous terrariums in the world.
Worried that spending your evenings colouring moss says something about you? It does, and it's good news: moss appreciation is attractive, actually.
GIVING IT AS A GIFT?
A thoughtful gift for gardeners, terrarium makers, houseplant lovers and anyone who would rather be in the woods.
Pair it with a Live Feather Moss Terrarium Kit or a Micro Moss Terrarium Kit for a gift that's ready to grow and ready to colour. Add a tiny brass frog if you'd like a resident to keep watch. Here's why a moss terrarium makes such a good gift.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What should I colour with?
Coloured pencils, fine-liners and felt-tips all work well with the open line work. If you're using felt-tips, slip a sheet of card behind the page you're colouring.
Is it just colouring?
No. Every illustration has a short moss field note facing it, so you learn a little about the real mosses as you colour.
When will my order ship?
Pre-orders are dispatched from 02 November. If you order other items at the same time, everything ships together on that date.
Can I buy it elsewhere?
