Live Feather Moss Terrarium Kit – Cork-Lid Mossarium

The living feather moss gives this terrarium its soft, slightly wild woodland character. Its branching growth spreads across the substrate rather than forming the rounded mounds associated with cushion or bun moss.

Our Feather Moss is a seasonal selection rather than one guaranteed species. Depending on natural availability, it may include or resemble British woodland mosses from genera such as Kindbergia, Brachythecium and Hypnum. Colour, texture and growth will therefore vary slightly from kit to kit.

Everything arrives separately packed. Start with the drainage layer, add the substrate and then arrange your living moss. Finish with a gentle mist before adding the cork lid.

Keep your finished mossarium somewhere cool with bright, indirect light. Avoid strong direct sunlight and hot windowsills, which can quickly overheat a closed glass terrarium.

A closed terrarium retains much of its own moisture, so it shouldn't need frequent watering. Light condensation is normal. If the glass remains heavily misted for long periods, remove the lid briefly to allow some excess moisture to escape. This is fresh living moss rather than preserved or artificial moss. Natural variation in colour, shape and texture is part of the product, and occasional brown growth, traces of soil or tiny pieces of woodland material are perfectly normal.

Is the moss real?

Yes. The kit contains fresh, living feather moss. It isn't dried, dyed or preserved.

Does it need much watering?

No. Once established, the closed environment retains humidity and moisture. The moss should remain lightly moist rather than waterlogged.
