Open the box and discover eight different live mosses, each hand-picked for its shape, texture and colour. The selection changes with the seasons, depending on what's growing best at the time, so no two boxes are quite the same.

It's a lovely way to see different moss textures side by side, and a ready-made palette for landscaping a bonsai pot, terrarium or mossarium.

A SEASONAL SELECTION

The mosses in your box depend on the time of year and what's looking particularly lovely when your order is prepared. Shapes, textures and shades of green will vary, so your box won't look exactly like the photographs. That's part of the pleasure of working with something alive.

You may occasionally find a tiny piece of leaf, bark or other woodland material too. That's nature doing what nature does.

HOW TO USE IT

Place each piece gently onto moist terrarium soil or your chosen growing medium and press it lightly into position. Group different mosses together for a varied miniature landscape, or use them separately around stones, exposed roots and ornaments.

Keep the moss moist while it settles in, but avoid saturating the soil beneath it.

KEEPING YOUR MOSS HAPPY

Every moss in this selection is well suited to closed terrariums. They prefer cool, humid conditions with bright, indirect light, away from hot windowsills, radiators and prolonged direct sunlight.

There's no fixed watering schedule: an open bonsai pot dries much faster than a closed mossarium, so mist when the moss begins to look dry. Rainwater or distilled water is ideal. Do not use fertiliser.

"Bonsai moss" describes how it's used, as small characterful pieces for dressing a bonsai pot, rather than a single species.

Can it live in a closed terrarium?
Yes. Every moss in the selection suits the humid conditions of a closed terrarium, given bright, indirect light and no waterlogging.

How is this different from Bun Moss Snippets?
Bun Moss Snippets are loose pieces of one moss (bun moss). This box is a selection of eight different mosses.

Does moss need soil?
No. Moss has no true roots and absorbs water and nutrients through its surface, so it can sit directly on substrate, rock or wood.
