Search "live moss for sale" and you'll get two very different things back: actual living moss, and the dyed, dried craft-shop stuff that's been dead since before it hit the shelf. They look similar in a thumbnail. They are not the same product.
What "live" actually means
Live moss is still growing. It has no roots — it absorbs water and nutrients straight through its surface — which is exactly why it survives shipping and transplanting so well, provided it isn't left dry for too long along the way. Preserved or dyed moss, on the other hand, has been through a glycerine treatment that stops it decomposing. It'll never grow, never green up in humidity, and never do the thing that makes a closed terrarium interesting: sit there quietly being alive.
If a listing doesn't say "live" or "preserved" anywhere, assume the worst and ask.
Where people actually buy it
Live moss sellers in the UK are a fairly small, specialist bunch — this isn't something garden centres reliably stock fresh, and supermarket "moss" is almost always the preserved kind sold for flower arranging. Your realistic options:

- "Live" stated explicitly — not just "natural" or "real", which sellers sometimes use loosely
- How it's shipped — a sealed, breathable bag, dispatched quickly rather than sitting in a warehouse
